Big Chorus, Charitable Cause

HYMN-OTIC: Jim Ramsey ’93E (MM) conducts one of the largest choral groups ever to perform at New York’s Lincoln Center as he leads the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra and 275 singers from across the country in a February concert celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of prolific hymn writer Charles Wesley. The author of more than 9,000 hymn texts, including “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” and “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing,” Wesley was the brother of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church. Ramsey, the director of worship and arts at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Littleton, Colorado, helped organize the Tercentennial Wesleyan Choral Festival at Avery Fisher Hall as a fundraiser for the United Methodist Campaign of Relief and its efforts to eradicate land mines in Angola.
