On April 26, Rochester alumni from throughout the New York City area gathered to share their pride in the University's achievements and to hear President Seligman's vision for the future of Rochester. It's one of several events Seligman has planned at cities across the country to introduce himself during his first full year on the job and to outline his goals for the institution. South District Community Ambassador Award

President Seligman received the South District Community Ambassador Award from Rochester City Councilman Adam C. McFadden (right). McFadden's district includes the University of Rochester, and the councilman chose Seligman for the award "because of the importance you have placed on community-university relations .... It has given many of us tremendous hope for our neighborhoods."
Class of 2008 Sophomore Dinner

President Seligman meets with students from the class of 2008 — Lydia Awuku, Chamarra Coward, Porschea Lewis, and Donte Watkins (left to right) — at their sophomore dinner in February. During his tenure, Seligman has launched a "listening tour" to meet with Rochester students and faculty in each school and affiliated program to talk about the University's future.
Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Address

Brooks Landing Dedication

President Seligman spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for Brooks Landing, a much-anticipated waterfront development that will revitalize the Brooks Avenue / Genesee Street area and expand connections between the city's neighborhoods and the University.

Noting that the lessons taught by outstanding teachers are among the fondest memories for most Rochester students, President Seligman helped recognize this year's winners of the Goergen Awards for Contributions to Undergraduate Education during the College's annual Convocation ceremony September 9. "This is a way of summoning all of us to greatness. I'm honored not only to welcome the students and faculty to the beginning of a great new year, but to do it by recognizing excellence," Seligman said.
Wilson Day

The students, who were lending a hand at Salem United Church of Christ, are a few of the more than 1,000 students, staff, and faculty that volunteered at 62 area sites this year. Strengthening the University's relationship with the local community is one of several issues Seligman says he plans to focus on in the coming months and years.
