- "Rationale and research
evidence for selected professional development practices"
(by R. Borasi) (10 pages) Building on the analysis reported in the previous essay, this
paper discusses four professional development practices that play a major
role in our framework - that is, engaging participants in "experiences
as learners," using videotapes and stories of classroom instruction,
engaging participants in "supported experiences as teachers,"
and using "illustrative units" as a common context for the previous
three practices. This analysis involves a description of the characteristic
elements of each of these practices, an identification of the teachers'
learning needs it can address, and a review of the empirical evidence and
arguments proposed in its support.
