Acquainting teachers with the supporting materials for the illustrative
units (D6.2)
Logistics and scheduling information (by Raffaella Borasi)
Since I had concluded that, because of logistical reasons, it would be impossible to require student teachers to implement one of our illustrative units, I did not schedule class sessions nor assignments to explicitly introduce the participants to the supporting materials available for these units. Participants did, however, read selected sections of these materials to inform some of the reflective sessions on their own inquiry experience on Tessellation or Area (see Section D3).
The task of planning a Tessellation or Area unit with the support of these materials (see Section D6.4 for a description of this assignment) could provide both context and motivation for a more explicit discussion of the contents and functions of these materials, and of other published instructional materials more generally. To date, however, I did not take advantage of this opportunity.
