Providing teacher testimonials (D6.3)
Logistics and scheduling information
(by Raffaella Borasi)

Although to date I have not included "teacher testimonial" sessions in the Methods course, the reasons have been mainly logistical. I strongly believe in the value of having pre-service teachers hear from teachers who have implemented inquiry unit, as they can benefit from the insights these experienced teachers can provide about teaching mathematics through inquiry.

There are two complementary ways, however, that pre-service secondary math teachers in our teacher preparation program have been able to interact with more experienced teachers. First, in-service teachers have occasionally enrolled as students in the Methods course (although this did not happen to be the case in the implementations featured in these materials). Second, in recent years I have encouraged pre-service students to join in "mini-series" on the teaching and learning of specific mathematical topics, which were being offered to in-service teachers involved in a Local Systemic Change project involving a few local schools; students have also been allowed to use their participation in these mini-series to fulfill some of the requirement for the mathematics education course which follows the Methods course.
