units (D6.2)
Participants' feedback - Responses to an anonymous questionnaire
General prompt: In order to help us evaluate and improve the organization of the Summer Institute in the future, we would appreciate your written feedback on each of its major components (as listed below). Note that the sub-items listed under some of these components are intended to help you remember some key elements of these experiences - don't feel you have to address each sub-item separately !
Specific item addressed: Supporting materials (here we would appreciate your comments not only on what you found helpful - or not - in the various materials provided for the Tessellation, Area and Remodeling units, and "Key strategies," but also on the way these materials were introduced and discussed in the Summer Institute, and especially on the sample selected for the reading assignments)
Note: In what follows we have combined the responses of participants in Implementation B and C of the program, since they both experienced this activity in the same way it has been described in this section of the materials. Also, we have only reported the comments relevant to the "Acquainting teachers with the supportive materials for the illustrative units" from the participants' responses to this item.
-- Materials - excellent. I look forward to following these lesson plans and modifying them for the following year or teaching experience.
-- Thursday night's assignment seemed a little long. The rest of the week was manageable. I liked the way you selected certain parts to read - and we needed to read it to have a base for the next day's learning.
-- I think all the choices were great. There was no time to discuss the reading more in class, but time was given for questions & that was all that was needed.
-- I found the pink, blue, and green booklets to be a wealth of information. I can easily understand what is being presented, and it has integrity. It is new, I have read little like this. [...] The piece we read the first night was so true for our experiences that day. I especially find the Goals booklets to be helpful. Justification for this approach is clearly written, and will help immensely in planning next year
-- I was, and still am, overwhelmed by the amount of written material provided. I appreciated the guidance as to which parts to read first.
-- Ya gotta have all the stuff but think of the trees. Particularly valuable were booklets containing the daily insights offered by the Phase 1 and 2 teachers.
-- Helpful

-- Participating in the actual lesson as a learner was the best! The materials weren't a problem. It's amazing that these things weren't used before!
-- Too much supporting materials, maybe 2 case studies & summary rationale. We have 8 or 9 notebooks on 3 units.
-- The only problems I had were
1. it's so much at once - very overwhelming
2. maybe all the "handout" worksheets could be in an appendix at the end of each unit book.
-- Too much!
Too much paper used/wasted?
-- I love those books
-- The way that you introduced materials was excellent. I feel like many teachers use materials inappropriately and your approach was refreshing
-- Good for the most part. The units were hard to use because of the organization, or lack of it. I know you are aware of the set-up and personal preferences.
-- Can I reserve opinions on what was helpful/or not until I have completed some units with my students? [ ] I think the reading assignments in the booklets will mean a lot more to me as I present the units to the students
