Developing a mathematical inquiry independently (D7.2)
Logistics and scheduling information (by Raffaella Borasi)
Choice of scope and format for this activity:
Although we think that engaging in an independent math inquiry can be very valuable for in-service teachers, as it could prepare them for exploring the math potential of a topic prior to designing an inquiry unit around it, we have not found it possible to include this activity within the constraints of a week-long Summer Institute. Occasionally, however, school facilitators engaged in such an inquiry together with individuals and/or small groups of participants, as a way to support these participants in their development of a new inquiry unit. (An example to this regard is offered by the case-study on the process of planning an inquiry unit on the Olympics Games, showcased in Section D7.1)
