2018 Urban Scholar Award Winners
The Urban Scholar Awards are presented each May to students who embrace the spirit of Susan B. Anthony in their dedication to social justice and community service, overcoming of social barriers to success, commitment to higher education, and/or the pursuit of professional career goals. Students must be enrolled in the Hillside Work Scholarship Connection and the Teen Health & Success Partnership program, as well as be employed by the University.
Erika is a 2018 graduate of Vanguard High School. Erika’s strong work ethic and positive attitude are reflected in the numerous accolades she receives in her role as a Customer Service Representative at URMC and from peers at school as she guides them through their college application process. Erika will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall, and she plans to later pursue a PhD in Environmental Science.
Miracle is a 2018 graduate of East High School. She has consistently demonstrated dedication to her education, community, and future career in health care. She has worked with elementary school students and attended nursing related programs with the University of Rochester. Miracle has been working at Strong Memorial Hospital as a Patient safety assistant since 2016 and will pursue a degree in nursing at Finger Lakes Community College.
