Know Your Rights: When Foreign Nationals Encounter Government Officials

Following recent immigration orders, there is a lot of confusion and concern about what foreign nationals should expect when they engage with various government agencies.  This may include domestic and international travel, inspection of personal items and electronic devices, and questioning from law enforcement.  Join us for a review of these issues and tips on how to advocate for yourself, when needed.  A local immigration attorney from the Legal Aid Society and experienced professionals from UR’s International Services Office will lead our discussion.

URMC’s Refugee Student Alliance will be hosting an informative discussion on the experiences and challenges of resettled refugees here in Rochester. The panelists include two former refugees and community activists, Obaida Omar and Omar Soufan, as well as a local physician who works with resettled refugees, Dr. Elizabeth Brown.
