Early administrators of the University of Rochester were, as one history puts it, "not enthusiastic about collegiate sports," viewing athletic competition as antithetical to the collegiate ideal. Editors of the Interpres skewered first president Martin B. Anderson's views on the subject in this 1886 caricature.
