This seminar series features faculty from various departments across campus. Faculty will speak on topics related to sustainability with a focus on what their discipline contributes to the understanding of the problem. While definitions and approaches to sustainability differ, everyone agrees that multidisciplinary approaches are essential to solving these complex problems. The goal of the seminar series is to help faculty and students from across the university become familiar with existing interests/expertise/research/courses related to sustainability at the University of Rochester. We hope that this will help build connections across disciplines and continue a conversation about how scholarship related to sustainability can be supported campus-wide.

This seminar series started in the Fall of 2008 with talks by University faculty from Philosophy, Anthropology, and Geology. Including these, Campus Sustainability Day, and other public lectures, the University hosted over a dozen events related to sustainability during the fall. During the Spring of 2009, we have planned talks by a wide range of speakers, including a ‘mini-series’ hosted by the Simon School on sustainability and business.

The MDPS seminar series is sponsored by the University Cluster in Interdisciplinary Studies (UCIS) in Sustainability. The UCIS will meet in the hour prior to each MDPS seminar in Room 202, Gavett Hall. All faculty, staff, and students are invited. Contact Katrina_korfmacher@urmc.rochester.edu with any questions. Thanks for your interest and support!
