Emi Hitomi, a University of Rochester senior, won the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Employee Award at the Association of College Unions International Region 2 Awards of which the University of Rochester is a proud member.
Hitomi has worked in Wilson Commons starting her freshman year as a Hive Game Room Student Employee for a year before moving up the ranks and becoming a building manager for two years. It wasn’t long until she earned the role of building manager supervisor in which she currently supervises the Building Manager Team that upholds the rules and policies of the student union.
“In her time as a student employee in Wilson Commons, Emi has consistently shown a hard work ethic where she has always gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide the best support to her team as well as the best customer service to the patrons of Wilson Commons,” says Michael Dedes, Wilson Commons Services Coordinator.
Dedes says that Hitomi is always eager to try something new to provide better programming and better customer services to everyone who visits Wilson Commons. While she has had to handle very stressful situations as a building manager, she has continuously shown calmness under pressure and the ability to think on her feet to get the job done.
“Emi’s peers respect her for the job she does and the leader she has become,” he explains. “We are very proud of Emi and are happy to be able to celebrate in her achievement!”
