University Counseling Center (UCC)
Supervision
Fellows receive weekly individual supervision from two supervisors. The supervisory staff consists of psychologists, a social worker and a psychiatrist, all of whom have extensive experience in college mental health. Most of the supervisors have a psychodynamic orientation, strongly influenced by object relations and self-psychology. Several supervisors are also guided by systems, developmental, and cognitive behavioral theory. Fellows routinely audio or videotape sessions with clients. This provides trainees and supervisors with an opportunity to review sessions in depth. Additional unscheduled supervision is available when needed.
Group Supervision of Psychotherapy
On a weekly basis, professionals in training meet with a senior supervisor from the private practice community to present audiotapes of their clinical work. Self-psychological principles are utilized to further their clinical work. The opportunity to learn from one another and discuss relevant issues in an open forum has proven to be a favorite among our professionals in training. Fellows have the option of attending this seminar.
