University Health Service (UHS)

UHS Physicians

The University Health Service (UHS) has physicians and nurse practitioners on its primary care staff. All UHS physicians are board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

If you do not know the name of your primary care provider, the receptionist will tell you the name when you call to schedule an appointment.

Beth Benson

Beth Benson, MD joined the University Health Service in January 2003 as a Staff Physician. Dr. Benson received her medical degree from Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee in 1986. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, where she also served as a research fellow in Preventive Cardiology.


Elizabeth Cox

Elizabeth Cox, MD joined UHS in August 1997. Dr. Cox also holds the position of Senior Instructor in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics in the UR School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Cox earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester in 1991 and completed her residency training in the UR Primary Care Program in Internal Medicine in 1994. Since completing her residency training, Dr. Cox completed fellowships in Advanced Biopsychosocial Studies and Adolescent Medicine.


Sharon J. Glezen

Sharon J. Glezen, MD joined the staff of UHS in July 1990 after completing her residency in the UR Primary Care Program in Internal Medicine. Dr. Glezen received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Glezen also holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine in the UR School of Medicine and Dentistry.


Alan Lorenz

Alan Lorenz, MD joined the University Health Service on September 1, 2009. Dr. Lorenz is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry in the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, Wisconsin in 1987. Dr. Lorenz completed his residency in Family Medicine and a fellowship in Family Systems Medicine at the University of Rochester in 1991. He is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Lorenz has co-authored two books, Models of Collaboration, and Family-Oriented Primary Care.


Ralph A. Manchester

Ralph A. Manchester, MD joined UHS in July, 1983. Dr Manchester served as chief of the UHS Medical Care Section until July 1994, when he assumed the position of Director of the University Health Service. Dr. Manchester is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine in the UR School of Medicine and Dentistry and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. He received his medical degree from the University of Vermont in 1979 and completed his residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in 1983. Dr. Manchester has an interest in the evaluation and treatment of medical problems of musicians.


Scott Tripler

Scott Tripler, MD joined the University Health Service in September 2011 as a Staff Physician. Dr. Tripler received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1985. He completed his residency in the Family Medicine Residency Program, Highland Hospital/University of Rochester School of Medicine and is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Tripler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine in the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
