University Health Service (UHS)

Health Insurance for the
Accelerated Bachelor's Program

As a full-time student at the University of Rochester, you participate in the comprehensive student health plan offered by the University Health Service (UHS). The health plan includes the mandatory health fee and health insurance.

Your coverage will include:

Selecting Health Insurance:

Each year all full-time students must complete the online Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Process to select their insurance for the academic year. Students who have their own insurance coverage can waive the University-sponsored insurance if their plan meets University standards. All requests for waiver will be audited to assure compliance with University standards.

Students who are beginning their full-time studies in September or January must complete the online Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Process. The link is located in the pink Quick Links box on the UHS home page. The link is open two months prior to the start of classes.

If you are beginning studies in May:

Students who begin their full-time studies in May must complete the enrollment or waiver process in two steps. (1) The first step is for insurance coverage from May through July. Students must use the Health Insurance Enrollment Form or the Health Insurance Waiver form (see below) for this time period. The deadline for submitting the appropriate form is Friday, March 30. (2) The second step is to complete the online Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Process for insurance coverage for the academic year (August 1-July 31). The deadline for completing the online insurance process is Wednesday, August 1.

If you are enrolling in the Aetna Student Health Insurance, the cost for May 1-July 31, 2012 is $444 for the insurance and $126 for the mandatory health fee. These charges will appear on your tuition billing statement.

About the University-sponsored health insurance:

The University-sponsored insurance plan is offered by Aetna Student Health. The plan includes prescription coverage (with a $250 deductible and tiered co-payments after the deductible has been met) and expanded coverage for services received outside the Rochester area. For more information about the Aetna Student Health insurance plan, check View Plan Details on the University of Rochester page on the Aetna Student Health web site.
