Services for Part-time Students
The University Health Service (UHS) provides a wide range of health care services for students, staff, and faculty of the University of Rochester. Part-time students are not eligible to participate in the Student Health Program for full-time students. However, as a part-time student at the University of Rochester, you and your family members over age 16 are welcome to come to the University Health Service for your personal health care. You will be charged for your visits on a fee-for-service basis.
If you would like to speak with someone about the services offered by the University Health Service and about becoming a patient at UHS, you can speak with Karen Lock, our Billing Manager (275-2638 or klock@uhs.rochester.edu). UHS physicians participate in most major health insurance plans in the Rochester area and are currently accepting new patients who are affiliated with the University. Services are provided on a fee-for-service basis.
The University Health Service is staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. The physicians at UHS are board certified in Internal Medicine. If you decide to come to UHS for your care, we suggest that you choose one of our physicians or nurse practitioners as your primary care provider and schedule appointments with that person whenever possible. Click here for information about the UHS physicians.
UHS offices are conveniently located in the Medical Center (Room 1-2315, near the main lobby of Strong Memorial Hospital) and on the River Campus (on the first floor of Morgan Wing in Susan B. Anthony Residence Hall). You can schedule an appointment at either one of these two medical offices. During the academic year, evening appointments are available Monday through Thursday evenings at our River Campus Office.
Patients of the University Health Service have access to medical care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whenever our offices are closed, a UHS physician is on-call and available by phone for our patients who have urgent concerns that cannot wait until our offices re-open. When calling UHS to schedule an appointment, please call 275-2662, our main appointment line, if you are calling during the week. On weekday evenings and weekends, you can call the UHS River Campus Office directly at 275-2161 to schedule an appointment or ask a question.
Please note: In the summer of 2008, the University Health Service will be moving to its new building on the River Campus. The building is located next to Susan B. Anthony Residence Hall. The University Health Service will also have an office in the Medical Center for patients based in that facility.
