The Online Health Insurance Process is now closed.
Every year all students who will be full-time in Fall 2019 must complete the Online Health Insurance Process during the Fall Open Enrollment period (June 7-September 15) to either enroll or waive the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna).
Please Note: Students who will be studying abroad in the fall semester do not complete the online process during the Fall Open Enrollment period. For more information, check the Health Insurance for Special Programs page.
Check Health Insurance for Full-time Students for more information about the health insurance plan offered by the University Health Service.
Failure to complete the Online Health Insurance Process will result in automatic enrollment in the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna) for the full year (i.e., August 1 through July 31). You will not be allowed to disenroll from the insurance plan during the plan year. Enrolling in this way (i.e., not completing the Online Health Insurance Process) is highly discouraged since it could lead to a delay in access to care during the first two months of the plan.
Thinking about waiving the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna)?
If you are considering waiving the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna), we recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm you will have coverage in the Rochester area. Many plans only cover emergency services in the Rochester area. If you need specialty services (e.g., mental health care) and the provider is considered out of network for your insurance plan, it will create a financial burden for you.
Another consideration is anticipated out-of-pocket expenses due to deductibles and copayments. If you have a high deductible plan, you may find it more cost effective to be on the UR Student Health Insurance Plan (Aetna), which has no deductibles.
