The University of Rochester is a national winner!
Throughout the fall semester, the University of Rochester, led by the University Health Service, participated in the Alana Yaksich National College/University Flu Vaccination Challenge. For the second year in a row, the University of Rochester was the national winner for the small school category!!
Alana’s Challenge is named in memory of Alana Yaksich, a 5 ½ year old who died from influenza in 2003. Alana’s Foundation challenges colleges and universities to increase flu vaccination rates among college students. We take this challenge seriously. This year the University Health Service increased the number of flu shots given to students, staff, and faculty by over 700 shots from the fall of 2017. Everyone receiving a flu shot at a UHS clinic or at a UHS office was asked to complete the Alana’s Challenge survey to document receipt of the vaccine.
Participating in Alana’s Challenge kept us all motivated throughout the semester. See the Alana’s Challenge 2018 Press Release for more information about Alana’s Challenge.
