Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance
The University Health Service (UHS) offers health insurance for individual full-time University of Rochester students and their spouses/domestic partners* through Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Rochester Region (Excellus BCBS). Full-time students are required to participate in this plan unless they complete the Health Insurance Selection Process indicating they are waiving the insurance plan because they have other insurance.
Full-time students are required to participate in this plan unless they are covered by their own (or parent’s or spouse’s) health insurance. Each year, all full-time students must complete the online Health Insurance Selection Process to let the University Health Service know what insurance coverage they will have for the year.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Summary of Benefits provides information about the benefits covered by this plan, as well as information about eligibility, prior authorization, guaranteed conversion, coordination of benefits, and payment for benefits and services. In addition to the restrictions listed under specific benefits, services not covered by the plan are listed on the last page of the summary. Questions:

* Domestic partners must meet specific criteria to be eligible for insurance (i.e., living with the student as a domestic partner whom the student can not legally marry).
