The University Health Service (UHS) offers health insurance for individual full-time University of Rochester students through Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Rochester Region (Excellus BCBS). Full-time students are required to participate in this plan unless they complete the Health Insurance Selection Process indicating they are waiving the insurance plan because they have other insurance.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Summary of Benefits provides information about the benefits covered by this plan. The plan requires prior referral from the University Health Service for certain services (e.g., visits to the emergency room for non-emergency care, referrals to specialists, etc.). In addition to the restrictions listed under specific benefits, services not covered by the plan are listed on the last page of the summary.
