As a full-time student at the University of Rochester, you participate in the comprehensive student health plan offered by the University Health Service (UHS). The health plan includes the mandatory health fee and health insurance.
Students who begin their full-time studies in May must complete the insurance enrollment or waiver process in two steps.
STEP 1: The first step is complete the Health Insurance Enrollment Form or the Health Insurance Waiver form for the remainder of the 2012-2013 academic year (May 1-July 31). All requests for waiver will be audited to assure compliance with University criteria before waiver approval. The form should be returned to the UHS Insurance Advisor by fax (585-756-0263), by e-mail (insurance@uhs.rochester.edu), or in person (Room 204, UHS Building on the University of Rochester River Campus).
STEP 2: The second step is to complete the online Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Process for the upcoming academic year (August 1-July 31) during Fall Open Enrollment (May 15- Sept 15). The final deadline for completing the online insurance process is September 15. Students will be notified by e-mail when the online site is open.
Each year all full-time students must complete the online Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Process to select their insurance for the academic year. Students who have their own insurance coverage can waive the University-sponsored insurance plan if their plan meets University criteria. All requests for waiver will be audited to assure compliance with University criteria before waiver approval.
Students who are beginning their full-time studies in September or January must complete the online Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Process. The link is located in the pink Quick Links box on the UHS home page.
The University-sponsored insurance plan is offered by Aetna Student Health. The plan includes prescription coverage (with a $250 deductible and tiered co-payments after the deductible has been met) and expanded coverage for services received outside the Rochester area. For more information about the Aetna Student Health insurance plan, check View Plan Details on the University of Rochester page on the Aetna Student Health web site.
If you have a spouse and/or children who need health insurance coverage, contact the UHS Insurance Advisor at insurance@uhs.rochester.edu for assistance.
