The Robert Noyce Scholarship Program
for Math and Science Teachers

The Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to obtain one of the highest quality educations for teaching math and science and to share your passion in these areas with students who need it most. We have 30 full scholarships available over three years to highly-qualified science, technology, engineering, and mathematics majors and professionals considering a career change to teaching. This is your opportunity to enroll into and fund one of the Warner School’s high-quality, innovative graduate teacher preparation programs in mathematics or science (biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science).

At the Warner School, we do not just prepare teachers to survive in today’s schools. Our goal is to prepare reflective practitioners of teaching, who aspire to make a difference, to motivate new thinking, and to transform lives. Our programs in math and science prepare teachers to understand that learning is more than simply memorizing the facts and procedures and to make math and science intrinsically fascinating for children.

Upon completion of the program, graduates turn their attention to helping with one of education’s most challenging problems—the severe shortage of well-prepared math and science teachers in underserved schools—by making a commitment to teach in a high-need school for at least two years within six years following their graduation.

Program Highlights
• The program awards scholarships to 30 highly-qualified STEM majors and professionals over three years.

• Noyce scholars attend Warner’s graduate teacher preparation program, tuition-free.

• Noyce scholars participate in high-quality, innovative teacher preparation programs leading to a master’s degree and New York State certification to teach in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science in grades 7-12.

• The program can be completed in 15 months by full-time students who start in the summer.

• Noyce scholars receive ongoing support during their first two years of teaching through access to monthly seminars, high-quality professional development, and electronic communications through listservs and blogs.
