Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process for proposal submission and review?
All submissions to the SIG are done through AERA's online management system (aera.net). When you are submitting you can choose to submit your manuscript to any Division or SIG, so simply choose SIG ATL or SIG EST from the menu and that will funnel your proposal to the appropriate SIG.
What does it mean that podcasts of the sessions will be made available?
At the 2006 Meeting of AERA the SIG ATL and EST session will be recorded for podcast. This means a digital audio recording of participants presentations will be made and posted to the SIG website along with the slides and associated paper. The email of the author will also be included for contact. The podcast, slides, and paper will be covered under a creative commons copyright to protect the rights of the author(s).
What is the SIG session allocation process?
The current state of session allocation was good for 2006 only (see quote from SIG handbook):
In an effort to develop a long-range policy that will eliminate the discrepancy between session allocation for SIGs (which is based on membership counts) and divisions (which is based on the number of proposal submissions), the AERA Council has decided that the total number of sessions allocated to SIGs be held constant for the 2006 Annual Meeting at the 2005 Annual Meeting level. This interim policy was made at the recommendation of the Annual Meeting Policies and Procedures Committee and endorsement of the SIG Executive Committee.
What will happen for 2007 depends on the vote in the by-laws change that occurred this year.
How can I become a reviewer for the SIG?
Signing up to review for a SIG is simple. Go to aera.net and log in as a member. There is a link to sign up to review. You choose the number of proposals you are willing to review and then proposals can be assigned to you by the SIG program chair. The entire process is managed via the online system.
How can I become a chair or discussant for a SIG session?
This process is simple and almost the same as signing up to review. Go to aera.net and log in as a member. There is a link to sign up to review / be a discussant or chair. You indicate you are willing to be a chair or a discussant for a session and then the SIG program chair can assign you to a session.
