The Warner Graduate Student Association (WGSA) is a student-centered body that has historically focused on catering to the needs of all Warner School students—from planning student parties and community service events, to finding more computers for the student lounge, our purpose is to listen to student concerns, ideas, and suggestions with the goal of improving our experience at the Warner School. We truly believe that a collaborative effort will help shape and improve our academic community and make Warner a more enriching graduate school experience.
In the past, graduate students have been encouraged to run for executive positions that become available late in the spring semester. Executive positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Social Chair, and Community Service Chair.
In fall 2009, a resurgence of energy created five distinct SIGS (Special Interest Groups) within WGSA:
1. Academic & Future Faculty Development SIG
2. Networking and Mentoring SIG
3. Diversity & Social Justice SIG
4. Community Outreach & Engagement SIG
5. LGBTQ & Allies SIG
As of spring 2010, groups one to four have become dormant, as students have graduated and moved on. The LGBTQ & Allies SIG, however, is very active. Visit the LGBTQ & Allies SIG website to access LGBTQ educational resources, learn about LGBTQ-related academic courses at the U of R, or to request a guest speaker for your class.
The other groups are waiting for new students to join. If you would like to join any of these groups, or start a new one, please contact Logan Hazen at LHazen@Warner.Rochester.edu. The possibilities are endless as to how students can participate in educational activities at Warner and help make a difference in the Warner community!
