Karen DeAngelis

Profile

Karen DeAngelis joined the Warner School faculty in 2007. She teaches courses on educational policy, education finance, the economics of education, and quantitative methods. Using economics as a lens, she examines issues related to K-12 teacher and administrator labor markets. She is particularly interested in how policies, such as salary levels and certification requirements, impact the qualifications and distribution of teachers, as well as the movement of prospective and practicing teachers into and out of the profession. She has extensive experience using large-scale educational databases at the district, state, and national levels.

Before joining the Warner School, she conducted P-16 policy research for the Illinois Education Research Council. In addition, she has done educational consulting and evaluation work for a number of organizations, including the American Institutes for Research, the Danforth Foundation, the St. Louis Desegregation Task Force, and the St. Louis Public School District. DeAngelis’ research has been supported by the American Educational Research Association and the Spencer Foundation. DeAngelis has taught courses in resource allocation and the economics of education at Stanford University and Washington University in St. Louis, respectively.
