STARS '08 - A Study of Energy
Teachers engaged 25 middle school urban girls in their own scientific inquiry around the core concept of “energy”. Over 12 weeks, small groups of STARS asked their own questions, collected data, analyzed it, and presented their findings through an interactive poster session to their family, community, elementary students and the local press.

Here are descriptions of and links to the unit plans used:

For Xtreme Energy: Students discover the effects of caffeine and energy drinks on humans and Daphnia (water fleas)!

For Bomb Stars: Students explore the chemical energy behind explosions!

For Dynamite Divas: This unit plan examines how our bodies use energy!

For Girls with Brains: Students investigate how energy effects the flight of rockets by launching water bottle rockets!
