Dave Baker of the University of Brighton, United Kingdom,
visited Warner for a week this month to speak on mathematics
practices, meet with faculty, and visit Rochester area classrooms.
Baker, a senior lecturer in mathematics education and a research
area leader in school based teaching and learning, is currently
investigating ways that homes and communities affect primary
school children's attainment in mathematics and literacy.
He spoke about this research at a colloquium: Researching
Home and School Mathematics Practices in the Early Years:
A case study from the UK.
While in Rochester, Baker also visited Warner doctoral student
Lynn Gatto's second grade classroom at Rochester's School
28 and the BUBL Project at the Rochester Museum and Science
Center.
