The Warner School's programs in Counseling & Human Development
prepare graduates who understand human development and change
across the life span in various contexts. They pursue leadership
roles in the helping professions as school counselors, community
agency counselors, teachers or researchers in colleges and
universities, and human development professionals in a range
of human service agencies, universities, government, and research
organizations.
Our programs are based on a deep interdisciplinary understanding
of human development and human potential. United by a commitment
to promoting healthy human development and a passion to help
individuals in need, Warner faculty and students in the Counseling
& Human Development programs work together to explore
and understand:
- How people grow and change through all ages--from infancy
to old age.
- The theories and research that help to understand the
nature of growth and change.
- The insights sociology, psychology, and biology provide
as we strive to comprehend learning and development in infancy,
childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
- The environments we can create within families, schools,
and communities to foster healthy human development.
- How we can help individuals to cope with personal difficulties
and address social and institutional problems which impinge
on healthy development.

CACREP Accreditation
The Counseling & Human Development programs are now among
a handful of programs in New York State to receive accreditation
from the national Council for Accreditation of Counseling
and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Learn more about
Warner's CACREP
Accreditation.
New York State Licensure in Mental Health Counseling
All Warner mental health programs at both the master's and doctoral levels are registered with the New York State Office of Professions which allows graduates to be automatically license-eligible in NYS (must also pass an exam and complete 3,000 hours of supervised time post-degree). Licensed Mental Health Counselors are qualified health care professionals, and can work in community, health and social service agencies and in private practice. The new licensure status allows most clients to use health insurance for services offered by the licensed mental health counselor.
