Educational Leadership Doctoral Degrees


Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Administration without New York State Certification (ISIS code: AA2)

This program is designed for administrators who wish to pursue the study of various aspects of educational administration at the doctoral level and do not need any additional NYS certification. The program can be pursued either full-time or part-time; it has no minimum residency requirement. It offers various options for completing the dissertation requirement.

Requirements

I. Entry-level Courses
(Up to 36 credits)

Entry level or advanced coursework in education or related fields; some or all of these courses can be transferred into the program from previous graduate work.

II. Research Methods Courses
(9 credits)

ED 506 Concepts and Issues in Social Science Research (formerly titled Doctoral Research Methods)

Additional research methods courses:
ED 507 Qualitative Research Methods
ED 504 Quantitative Research Methods
ED 520 Program Evaluation

III. Program Core
(15 credits)

Five advanced courses in educational leadership.

IV. Electives

Choose electives as needed to reach a minimum of 90 credits; some advanced research methods courses are recommended.

V. Dissertation Research
(9-15 credits)

ED 593 Ed.D. Dissertation Research (at least 9 credits recommended)
ED 591 Independent Study (optional)

Note: Students may register for ED 593 only after the comprehensive exam.
