Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) Project

Principal Investigators
Ellen Santora
Assistant Professor, Teaching and Curriculum

Raffaella Borasi
Dean of the Warner School of Education and Human Development

Description
Through PT3, the Warner School seeks to improve education for all students, in part by preparing its teacher educators and teachers to effectively use technology in their own learning, and in their teaching practices. Among other resources, the project uses a new technology classroom to encourage teacher educators and their students to enhance content area learning through technology integration. Five regional K-12 educational institutions are collaborating with the Warner School in the project. They are: Monroe #1 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, the East Rochester Union Free School District, the Greece Central School District, and two City of Rochester School District sites.

The project staff initially assessed teacher educators’ current levels of knowledge and facility with many forms of technology. Then this knowledge was used to:

  • Develop high-quality professional development experiences for teacher educators.
  • Identify demonstration sites for teacher educators to observe, experience, and collaborate in planning technology-rich teaching and learning environments.

As a result educators have been encouraged to:

  • Integrate technology with subject matter in teacher preparation courses
  • Create a culminating multi-media performance assessment for teachers who are Warner School graduate students

Supported By
A U.S. Department of Education Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers To Use Technology Grant. The approved grant amount is $724,651 for the three-year project.
