Fifteenth Annual Renewal and Reflection for Counseling Professionals

"The Relevant Counselor: Preparing students for life, career, and the real world"

Location
Airport Holiday Inn
911 Brooks Ave
Rochester, NY

Date
January 25, 2006 (snow date January 27, 2005)

Overview
Counselors today have considerable responsibility to be brokers of information and resources for students and parents at all educational levels. Counselors need to help students and parents make wise decisions about educational and life planning choices, even in the face of increasing complexity and uncertainty about the future. Students today may be preparing for jobs that don’t yet exist, but soon will. Communities wish to nurture their young people for a diversity of future social roles and relationships. As such, counselors need to be up to date in their understandings of what is going on in the wider world, particularly in the realms of work and career as well as community-wide opportunities for young people of diverse talents, motivations and interests.

This year’s conference tackles the challenge of asking “how can counselors be effective in the facilitating, consulting and coordinating dimensions of their work with students’ futures?” and encourages school counselors to work with new understandings, role definitions and tools for their own success in helping all students move successfully out into the world around them.
