University Pilots Alert System
The University will launch a new emergency alert system that uses e-mails, text messages, cell phones, and other devices to send simultaneous warnings. AlertUR will start as a pilot program for all undergraduates in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering and in the Eastman School and later will be phased in for the rest of the University community. Students can update their phone numbers, e-mails, and other contact information online. Read more....   

Eastman School Town Hall Meeting
President Seligman will present an open forum with Eastman students, faculty, and staff on Wednesday, March 26, at 6:15 p.m. at the Eastman School, room 305.

ArtAwake is Friday
The Urban Exploring Club, a student group passionate about Rochester's architectural history, has organized ArtAwake, an art and music festival to be held Friday, March 28, at Station 55, a circa 1900 building near the city's Public Market. Read more...  

Be an Usher at Commencement
The Commencement Committee is seeking enthusiastic student volunteers for the Sunday, May 18, commencement ceremony. Ushers will greet and direct guests during the morning ceremony on the Eastman Quadrangle. Ushers are able to attend commencement and the brunch that follows. Simulcast Planned for Eco and Rushdie Visit
Because tickets for the Umberto Eco and Salman Rushdie reading on May 1 have sold out, the event will be simulcast at 6 p.m. in Hubbell Auditorium. Registration for the simulcast is required. Visit Open Letter’s Web site Three Percent for details.

Public Market Shuttle Running on Saturdays
During the spring, try the free Saturday shuttle to Rochester’s Public Market by catching the Green Line from 7:45 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. at Rush Rhees or the corner of Wilson and Intercampus Drive. The bus also makes a stop at Alexander and East on the return trip. The market offers over 250 vendors, selling fresh fruits and vegetables, ethnic delicacies, arts and crafts and more.   

Learn How to Cook
Under the direction of Executive Chef Antonio Pignagrande, enjoy a hands-on cooking experience and the tasty three-course meal you prepare during a free cooking class for students on Wednesday, April 2, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Danforth Dining Center. Space is limited. Register by March 27 by e-mailing ldudman@uhs.rochester.edu.

Results of Student Survey Presented
A presentation of the data from the Survey of Student Well-Being will be held on Tuesday, March 25, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Gowen Room in Wilson Commons. Janis Whitlock of Cornell University will share the findings from the survey which was conducted at the University during the spring 2007 semester. Psychology Undergraduate Council Career Fair
Catch a panel discussion on careers in psychology by a clinical psychologist, school counselor, industrial organizational psychologist, sports psychologist, forensic psychiatrist, and resident treatment program manager at Crestwood Children's Center. The discussion is scheduled for March 26 at 7 p.m. in Dewey Hall 1-101.

Domestic Violence
The Health Interest Floor and the Health and Society Undergraduate Council are hosting a discussion on domestic violence titled: "But It Only Happened One Time..." Scheduled for 7 p.m. March 26 in Lattimore 201, the free event features Paula Shinebergh, an advocate at Alternatives for Battered Women. For details, contact cakwaa@mail.rochester.edu.

Study Abroad Scholarship Deadlines
Don’t miss the following deadlines for College-approved study abroad scholarships: CIEE, April 1; Freeman-Asia, April 2; Gilman, April 15; and IES, May 1. For questions contact the Center for Study Abroad and Interdepartmental Programs at 275-7532 or abroad@mail.rochester.edu. The next information meeting for study abroad is Thursday, March 27, at 9 a.m. in Wilson Commons 202. Proposals for interdepartmental majors and minors are due April 1.

Friends or Family in Military Service?
The Dean of Students Office in the College is gauging interest in a support group for students who have family or friends in military service, either currently or in the past. The office is also interested in students directly involved in military service. If interested, or if you know of someone who might be interested, contact the Dean of Students Office at 275-4085.

Dr. Frank Konstantin Winery Dinner
Enjoy a special menu in The Meliora created by University chefs, each course accompanied a different selection of Dr. Frank's wines on Thursday, March 27. Seatings are 4:30 and 6:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the Common Market for $34.99. Call 275-7687 for ticket and seating information.

Easter Service
Students are invited to a special Easter service that includes the University's Gospel Choir in the Chapel today at 3 p.m.

Impressionist Exhibit Opens at the MAG
Enjoy works by Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and Mary Cassatt as part of the Memorial Art Gallery’s exhibition In Pursuit of Life and Leisure: Impressionist Masterpieces from the MAG Collection, which opened this weekend. Students are admitted free with University ID.

Order Graduation Caps and Gowns
The bookstore is holding a graduation fair on April 4, during which students can order caps, gowns, and class rings and have pictures taken in the regalia. Representatives from different campus departments will be available to answer questions. Call 275-4012 for more information.

Green Line Bus to Pittsford Plaza
Shop or enjoy a Sunday brunch at the Cheesecake Factory from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For times, check the online bus schedule.

Neilly Series Lecture
Ronald Calinger, professor of history at Catholic University of America presents “Leonhard Euler: The Mozart of Mathematics” in Rush Rhees Library at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26.

Mela Showcases Indian Music and Dance
The Association for the Development of Interest in the Indian Sub-continent is hosting its annual Mela show April 5 at 2 p.m. in Strong Auditorium, followed by dinner catered by Thali of India and served in Douglass Dining Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.

A video of Provost Ralph Kuncl's inaugural address, titled "Meliora," is now available online.

Bookstore Sale
Regularly priced hats and t-shirts are 25 percent off at the bookstore through March 29. The sale does not apply to UnderArmour or kids clothing.

The winner’s name from the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey raffle will be drawn on Monday, March 24, and the recipient will be notified by e-mail by the end of the day. The prize is $100. .
