New Student Timeline

Welcome to the University of Rochester! We are so excited that you’ve decided to join the Rochester community and become a yellowjacket! Our team in the College Center for Advising Services, or CCAS will be here to help you get registered for courses, as well as support you during your time at Rochester.

Requirement for Enrolling

In order to complete many of the steps necessary to enroll in the upcoming semester, you must first submit your enrollment deposit in UR Student. We recommend making this deposit at the beginning of advising week so that you do not miss important deadlines.

Academic Advising Begins: Monday, November 27, 2024

Your academic advisor(s) will reach out to you at your Rochester email address within approximately 15 business days of your official enrollment (once you've made your enrollment deposit).

Complete your Writing Self-Placement Survey: Before January 6, 2025

Date of Enrollment through Wednesday, January 6, 2025    

This placement exam is required for all incoming students and will help you discern which writing course best suits your experience. You should complete the placement survey two weeks before course registration, but no later than January 6. View instructions on the new student checklist.

Connect with your Academic Advisor(s): Friday, January 6, 2025

Depending on your academic advisor(s), they may request that you set up a virtual face-to-face meeting, or they may communicate with you through email. You must connect with them by January 6 for them to approve your first-semester courses and lift the advising hold on your registration account. You will be able to register as soon as the advising hold is lifted.

Create your Saved Schedule in UR Student

Before Your Register for Classes

Creating a saved schedule will save you time and allow you to organize the courses you would like to register for in a course schedule format. Then, you can simply enroll in those courses from your saved schedule when registration opens. View instructions for creating a saved schedule in this PDF or video tutorial.

Spring Course Registration

Registration will take place in UR Student. Incoming students are permitted to register after they’ve met with a College Advisor, had their first-semester schedule approved, and had their Advising Hold removed.
