{"id":258036,"date":"2007-11-26T16:37:11","date_gmt":"2007-11-26T16:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2007\/11\/26\/more-end-of-year-lists\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:34:53","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T17:34:53","slug":"more-end-of-year-lists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2007\/11\/26\/more-end-of-year-lists\/","title":{"rendered":"More End-of-Year Lists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I mentioned before, I&#8217;m a big fan of end-of-the-year lists, even if they do tend to be fairly safe and uninteresting. <\/p>\n<p>I prefer the <a href=\"http:\/\/books.guardian.co.uk\/review\/story\/0,,2216467,00.html\"><i>Guardian<\/i><\/a>  list because it&#8217;s a collection of &#8220;best books of the year&#8221; as recommended by other writers and cultural figures. This approach seems to lead to more interesting books getting mentioned, such  Echenoz&#8217;s <i>Ravel<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>The  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/12\/02\/books\/review\/notable-books-2007.html?_r=1&#38;ref=review&#38;oref=slogin\"><i>New York Times<\/i><\/a> list of &#8220;100 Notable Titles&#8221; is a bit more conventional and conservative, but it does include a number of international works, including three <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readingtheworld.org\">Reading the World<\/a> titles: <i>The Collected Poems: 1956-1998<\/i> by Zbigniew Herbert, <i>The Savage Detectives<\/i> by Roberto Bolano, and <i>Dancing to &#8220;Almendra&#8221;<\/i> by Mayra Montero. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I mentioned before, I&#8217;m a big fan of end-of-the-year lists, even if they do tend to be fairly safe and uninteresting.
