{"id":261336,"date":"2008-04-08T13:22:25","date_gmt":"2008-04-08T13:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2008\/04\/08\/reading-the-world-2008-website\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:32:18","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T17:32:18","slug":"reading-the-world-2008-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2008\/04\/08\/reading-the-world-2008-website\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading the World 2008 Website"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readingtheworld.org\/\">Reading the World<\/a> website for 2008 is now online, complete with info about all 25 titles (from 15 different presses), info about participating bookstores, how to sign up, how to get on the mailing list, etc.<\/p>\n<p>In case you&#8217;re not already familiar with this, <span class=\"caps\">RTW<\/span> is an innovative collaboration between publishers and independent booksellers to promote literature in translation throughout the month of June. Last year over 230 bookstores across the States displayed works from these select presses, along with brochures and posters featuring artwork from the Czech artist Peter Sis. <\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re planning on reviewing most (if not all) of the titles in the program before June, and as of the moment, we&#8217;ve reviewed five:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?id=911\"><i>Knowledge of Hell<\/i><\/a> by Antonio Lobo Antunes<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?id=844by\"><i>Nazi Literature in the Americas<\/i><\/a> Roberto Bolano<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?id=795\"><i>Yalo<\/i><\/a> by Elias Khoury<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?id=839\"><i>Serve the People!<\/i><\/a> by Yan Lianke<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?id=776\"><i>The Diving Pool<\/i><\/a> by Yoko Ogawa<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of reviews and related <span class=\"caps\">RTW<\/span> promotions, if anyone out there would like to help promote <span class=\"caps\">RTW<\/span> (maybe interviewing authors\/translators for your blog, reviewing some of these titles, arranging <span class=\"caps\">RTW<\/span> events, getting more press for the participating bookstores), please e-mail me at chad.post at rochester dot edu, or post something in the comments. This program was conceived of as a grassroots sort of project that readers, reviewers, translators, booksellers, can all engage in and spread the word about in various ways.
