On Amazon&#8217;s site there&#8217;s a feature to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/feature.html\/ref=amb_link_5915932_1?ie=UTF8&#38;docId=1000230941&#38;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&#38;pf_rd_s=special-offers-1&#38;pf_rd_r=0YV2RR0H9MSE0GKTWEG1&#38;pf_rd_t=201&#38;pf_rd_p=427740801&#38;pf_rd_i=B000FI73MA\">See a Kindle in Your City:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We\u2019ve heard feedback that many Kindle owners love their Kindle and like showing it off. Some of you even said you have trouble reading Kindle in public because people always ask, \u201cWhat is that?\u201d We\u2019ve also heard from prospective customers who would love to see a Kindle before they buy one.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We created the \u201cSee a Kindle in Your City\u201d area to help prospective owners connect with Kindle owners to get a chance to see the device in person. We started with a selection of cities \u2013 find yours or start one for your city. Whether you want to meet at your local coffee shop, a public park, or your favorite watering hole is up to you. We hope you enjoy meeting your fellow Kindlers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the public park? Or watering hole? This sort of sounds like a Craigslist hook-up scheme for Kindle owners. . . . There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/tag\/see%20a%20kindle%20in%20your%20city\/images\/ref=tag_cdf_hd_iciu\">one photo<\/a> included in this section, although I&#8217;m really not sure how this relates to finding a Kindle . . .<\/p>\n<p>The discussion board can&#8217;t be searched, but in pages 1-5 (of 35!) there&#8217;s no listing for Rochester, NY. I just might have to start one . . . <\/p>\n<p>In a bigger picture sense, I&#8217;m sure the idea of creating a &#8220;Kindle Community&#8221; was discussed at a number of marketing meetings. It&#8217;s not a terrible idea, although this discussion board doesn&#8217;t quite seem to be the best way to make this happen. And based on what others are saying about the elusiveness of seeing a Kindle in the wild, it&#8217;s almost a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/08\/10\/magazine\/10wwln-consumed-t.html?8br\">Zune-like<\/a> experience.
