{"id":264776,"date":"2008-09-25T12:54:28","date_gmt":"2008-09-25T12:54:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2008\/09\/25\/dubravka-ugresic-on-the-internets\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:29:49","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T17:29:49","slug":"dubravka-ugresic-on-the-internets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2008\/09\/25\/dubravka-ugresic-on-the-internets\/","title":{"rendered":"Dubravka Ugresic on the Internets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past week or so, Dubravka&#8217;s book (<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.openletterbooks.org\/authors\/1\"><em>Nobody&#8217;s Home<\/em><\/a>) has been making its way around the internet, garnering some really nice praise along the way.<\/p>\n<p>First off, it received a great review (4 out of 5) by Gwen Dawson at the always excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/litlicense.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/nobodys-home-by-dubravka-ugresic-review.html\">Literary License.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And then yesterday, Douglas Rushkoff (whose upcoming book <em>Life Incorporated<\/em> sounds incredible&#8212;check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2008\/09\/23\/what-went-wrong.html\">this post<\/a> for a pre-glimpse, with more specific info found <a href=\"http:\/\/rushkoff.com\/books\/life-incorporated\/\">here<\/a>) referenced <em>NH<\/em> in a post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2008\/09\/24\/great-books-by-women.html\">BoingBoing<\/a> about Great Books by Women:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>this collection of essays puts her on par with Zizek or Baudrillard for observation and critique &#8211; and maybe a cut above for courage to speak the truth. There&#8217;s something decidedly female about this writing as well, which exposes a bit of the bias of the rest of post-modernism. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Also interesting about his post is the opening:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>If I were ever invited to join a secret cabal of culturally wise writers &#8211; the kind of club where you&#8217;d find Erik Davis, Douglas Wolk, Jonathan Lethem, or Luc Sante all sipping absinthe while deconstructing reruns of <em>Man From Uncle<\/em> &#8211; I imagine it would also host the kinds of women who are writing the books that have ended up in my mailbox this month. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\n<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s totally the sort of club I&#8217;d love to join . . .  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past week or so, Dubravka&#8217;s book (Nobody&#8217;s Home) has been making its way around the internet, garnering some really nice praise along the way.
