{"id":265436,"date":"2008-10-24T14:02:42","date_gmt":"2008-10-24T14:02:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2008\/10\/24\/pen-america-9-checkpoints\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:29:44","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T17:29:44","slug":"pen-america-9-checkpoints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2008\/10\/24\/pen-america-9-checkpoints\/","title":{"rendered":"PEN America #9: Checkpoints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/page.php\/prmID\/150\"><em><span class=\"caps\">PEN<\/span> America<\/em><\/a> arrived earlier this week and has a ton of interesting articles, interviews, fiction, and poetry. <\/p>\n<p>The pieces by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/viewmedia.php\/prmMID\/2779\/prmID\/1502\">Yousef Al-Mohaimeed<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/viewmedia.php\/prmMID\/2812\/prmID\/1502\">Anya Ulinich<\/a> look great, but the real highlight to me is the transcripts from some of the <span class=\"caps\">PEN<\/span> World Voices events. There&#8217;s no way one can attend all the events he\/she wants to during the festival, so it&#8217;s great that <span class=\"caps\">PEN<\/span> makes the video\/audio of many of the events available online and supplements that by printing some of the transcripts in this magazine. <\/p>\n<p>For instance, this issue reprints the conversations with Peter Esterhazy and Wayne Koestenbaum,  Jeffrey Eugenides and Daniel Kehlmann, and Albert Mobilio, Elias Khoury, and Nuruddin Farah. <\/p>\n<p>Overall, it&#8217;s another great issue, and definitely worth the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/page.php\/prmID\/219\">cover price.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new issue of PEN America arrived earlier this week and has a ton of interesting articles, interviews, fiction, and poetry.
