{"id":268596,"date":"2009-02-10T17:16:33","date_gmt":"2009-02-10T17:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2009\/02\/10\/latest-review-machine-by-peter-adolphsen\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T14:10:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T14:10:09","slug":"latest-review-machine-by-peter-adolphsen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2009\/02\/10\/latest-review-machine-by-peter-adolphsen\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Review: Machine by Peter Adolphsen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?id=1678\">latest review<\/a> is of Danish author Peter Adolphsen&#8217;s <em>Machine<\/em>, which came out last year from MacAdam\/Cage. <\/p>\n<p>Larissa Kyzer&#8212;who&#8217;s reviewed a number of Danish and Scandinavian books for us&#8212;makes Adolphsen (and his work) sound really interesting, and, for lack of a better word, condensed:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Although Danish author Peter Adolphsen has made a name for himself as a formalist for whom economy is a virtue (to date his five novels and short story collections are less than 300 pages combined), \u201cas a reader,\u201d one reviewer writes, \u201cyou feel you have covered a huge distance with him.\u201d Drawing comparisons to Borges and Kafka, Adolphsen has written parables and parodies, \u201cultrashort biographies,\u201d children\u2019s books, and a collection called En Million Historier (A Million Stories), which allows the reader to construct, well, a million stories, from ten pages of interchangeable two-line segments.
