{"id":269506,"date":"2009-03-19T15:47:42","date_gmt":"2009-03-19T15:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2009\/03\/19\/pens-poetry-slam\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:24:13","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T17:24:13","slug":"pens-poetry-slam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2009\/03\/19\/pens-poetry-slam\/","title":{"rendered":"PEN&#39;s Poetry Slam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/viewmedia.php\/prmMID\/3294\/prmID\/1502\">This<\/a> is pretty cool:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Inspired by live translation slams that proved to be audience favorites at the Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival, and again at <span class=\"caps\">PEN<\/span> World Voices, PEN\u2019s online Translation Slam aims to showcase the art of translation by juxtaposing in a public forum two \u201ccompeting\u201d translations of a single work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For the inaugural installment, we asked translators to test their linguistic mettle on \u66ae\u8272, a poem by Chinese writer Xi Chuan. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As you can see by comparing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/viewmedia.php\/prmMID\/3294\/prmID\/1502\">two examples,<\/a> there&#8217;s more than one way to skin a poem.
