{"id":270126,"date":"2009-04-07T19:52:24","date_gmt":"2009-04-07T19:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2009\/04\/07\/latest-review-laundry\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T14:10:08","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T14:10:08","slug":"latest-review-laundry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2009\/04\/07\/latest-review-laundry\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Review: Laundry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The most recent addition to our review section is Jenna Furman&#8217;s piece on Suzane Adam&#8217;s <em>Laundry<\/em>, a recent release from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autumnhillbooks.com\/\">Autumn Hill Books<\/a> translated by Becka Mara McKay. <\/p>\n<p>Jenna is an intern with Open Letter, a former intern for literary agent Meredith Bernstein, and an incredibly good proofreader. <\/p>\n<p>Her review opens:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Suzane Adam is an renowned author in Israel and received the Kugel Prize in 2006 for her novel, <em>Janis\u2019s Mother.<\/em> Adam\u2019s first novel, <em>Laundry<\/em>, her first novel to be translated from Hebrew into English, is a novel that captivates from the first page with a mysterious narrator and even more elusive plot.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The novel begins <em>en media res<\/em> with a narrative that hints towards a tragic event that has occurred and the confusion and concern that it has caused to those observing its aftermath. The structure of the novel progresses into a story told from the beginning, a story that will explain the recent tragic event, which is both the novel\u2019s opening and its conclusion, but begins when the main character is a five-year-old with curious violet eyes.
