{"id":279566,"date":"2010-08-30T17:44:58","date_gmt":"2010-08-30T17:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2010\/08\/30\/2011-2012-japan-u-s-friendship-commission-prize\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T16:31:53","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T16:31:53","slug":"2011-2012-japan-u-s-friendship-commission-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2010\/08\/30\/2011-2012-japan-u-s-friendship-commission-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"2011-2012 Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of you might be interested in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keenecenter.org\/content\/view\/58\/76\/\">this announcement<\/a> regarding the 2011-2012 Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature, which is sponsored by the Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture and carries with it $6,000 in prize money. <\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s winners were Michael Emmerich for <em>Manazuru<\/em> by Hiromi Kawakami (it&#8217;s a Michael Emmerich day here at Three Percent), and Thomas William Hare for <em>Zeami: Performance Notes<\/em> by Zeami Motokiyo. <\/p>\n<p>The submission deadline is October 28, 2010, and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/index.php?s=file_download&#38;id=77\">click here<\/a> to download an application form. <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the list of eligibility requirements:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Prize is intended for translators who are not widely recognized for\ttheir translations, though they may have published. Those who have previously received the Prize are ineligible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Translations must be book-length works of Japanese literature: novels, \tcollections of short stories, literary essays, memoirs, drama, or poetry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Translated works submitted for consideration may include:  (a) unpublished manuscripts; (b) works in press;  &#169; translations published after January 1st, 2009.
