Gift honors Paul Burgett's Legacy

A recent gift from anonymous donors establishes the Paul J. Burgett Distinguished Professorship at the Eastman School of Music. The endowed fund honors the legacy of Burgett '68E, '72E (MA) 76E (PhD), one of the University's most recognized citizens, for his lifelong commitment to music and education.

Alumni Leaders: Hajim Young Leadership Council

Five years ago, the Hajim Young Leadership Council was created to connect alumni to educational and networking opportunities, and to keep leaders of the Hajim School of Engineering up to date on current trends in the engineering industry. Katie Schwertz '08 and John Pershing '10 are two members of the group, that runs like a collective—without official leadership.

University Appoints First Vice President for Equity and Inclusion

Mercedes Ramírez Fernández, associate vice provost for strategic affairs and diversity at Virginia Tech, will join the University on July 1 as Rochester's first vice president for equity and inclusion. She will lead the new Office of Equity and Inclusion and work closely with deans and other senior leaders and campus constituencies to create, implement, and lead an institution-wide diversity strategic plan that includes recruitment, training, communication, policy, and metrics.

Board Elects Two Members, Honors Five Life Trustees

At its May meeting, the University's Board of Trustees elected new board members and life trustees. The two elected members are Naveen Nataraj '97, a senior managing director of the corporate advisory business at Evercore, a global independent investment advisory firm; and Kathy Waller '80, '83S (MBA), who recently retired as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Coca-Cola Company.
