Happy Birthday, Wilson Commons

Designed by famous architect I. M. Pei, Wilson Commons celebrated its birthday last month. Over the years, this iconic student union has become a centerpiece of campus life—a place to study, eat, dance, drink coffee (and, at one time, beer), get a haircut, play billiards or violin, and publish a weekly newspaper. It has even served as the stage for student protests. At its 40th anniversary in 2016, the University honored this exceptional structure.

Actor and motion capture artist, Noshir Dalal ’03

Noshir Dalal ’03 has performed on theater stages, in TV shows and on movie screens, and in video games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Spider-Man. As a motion capture artist, Dalal creates dynamic performances that become the inspiration for digital characters. He recently ran a workshop to help students learn more about motion capture performance and physical theater.

Joe and Peggy Wilson

Unpacking the life of a Rochester legend

John Green, a PhD candidate in musicology at the Eastman School of Music, recently served as an archivist with the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation. He jumped on the opportunity to develop a system to help scholars and researchers search the broad expanse of Joseph C. Wilson’s papers. The process provided Green with incredible insight into the former CEO’s character and leadership approach.

Presidential Inauguration Set for October 4

The inauguration of Sarah Mangelsdorf, the University’s next president, will occur on Friday, October 4, during the annual Meliora Weekend. Planning for the ceremony and related events is being led by team members from the Office of the President, the Office of the Board of Trustees, Advancement, University Communications, and the Office of the Provost.
