Throughout the year, we have been collecting their stories of challenges and triumphs. In this issue of Rochester Review, we look back at how our campuses and communities responded during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rob Clark to step down as provost and senior VP for research
| |
Rob Clark, provost and senior vice president for research at Rochester, has announced his plans to step down from those roles as of June 30, 2021. A nationally recognized engineer and academic administrator, Clark joined the Rochester faculty in 2008, when he was named dean of what was later named the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences. A national search will begin this spring to find a successor.

Author, antiracist activist Ibram X. Kendi to deliver University’s MLK address

Ibram X. Kendi, a best-selling author, professor, antiracist activist, and historian of race and discriminatory policy in America, will be the keynote speaker as the University of Rochester celebrates the 20th anniversary of its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Address. Kendi’s virtual speech will be Wednesday, February 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. EST, preceded by a Q&A with University student leaders.

Wharton Elevated to Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion

Mitchell Wharton, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, CNS, is now wearing a new hat — associate dean for equity and inclusion. Already an integral figure in the University of Rochester School of Nursing’s diversity initiatives, Wharton will work with members of the school and Rochester communities to develop strategies to increase the diversity, equity, and inclusivity of the nursing workforce and academic nursing pipeline.

The University’s Institute of Optics was the nation’s first optical science, engineering, and design program and has granted over half of all degrees in optics ever awarded in the United States.

With one-month and three-month program options available, participants will be carefully matched based on their preferences and interests.
