Project updates<\/h1>\n

Crews work to enclose the building in time for winter<\/span><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” use_row_as_full_screen_section_slide=”no” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” box_shadow_on_row=”no”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]\"AAfter a busy summer and fall, work on the new Emergency Department and patient pavilion continues at a steady and exciting pace\u2014and the construction site continues to buzz with activity.<\/p>\n

During the third week of October, more than 380 workers were active on the job site at one time, a record for any construction project in University history. As work continues, it is anticipated that this record may not last long with more than 400 workers expected to be active on the job site at some points in the future.<\/p>\n

A current and significant focus of construction is enclosing the building to enable continued progress this winter.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px” image_repeat=”no-repeat”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

What\u2019s New<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n
    \n
  • Crews are working hard to complete the exterior walls, which have several layers.<\/li>\n
  • Composite sheathing boards and a vapor barrier are attached to metal stud framing on the structure, which will eventually be covered by brick veneer or metal siding.<\/li>\n
  • In some locations, glass curtainwall that will be part of the final structure is being installed.<\/li>\n
  • As sheathing is installed on lower sections, heavy plastic shrink wrap is being used to enclose the tower\u2019s upper stories by year\u2019s end.<\/li>\n
  • As temperatures drop, temporary heating will keep interior spaces suitable for crews to continue working.<\/li>\n
  • While enclosure of the exterior is being completed, work continues to progress inside the structure.<\/li>\n
  • Masonry crews are finalizing concrete pours, with floor slabs completed through the ninth floor, followed by staircases and the connection bridge.<\/li>\n
  • Teams are also busy installing mechanical and electrical equipment, drywall, and interior finishes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

These \u201cpods\u201d are built at a facility in Pennsylvania and shipped to the site fully intact.
