A note from the Dean
A note from the Dean
Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends,
As we head into another academic year, I am eagerly anticipating the progress of initiatives and programs that have been made possible, in part, by the generosity of alumni like you. Your gifts, year after year, provide the sustenance needed to continue providing the diverse educational and personal experiences of our future engineers. We are very grateful for your continued support of the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences.
Our community of alumni is essential and provides a stable foundation giving us the flexibility to explore new opportunities and to enhance current offerings. Our world needs more engineers who have different ways of approaching the many challenges humanity must address. The Hajim School is focused on providing access and opportunity to all students and to creating and building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for everyone. Donor support made it possible for students to attend a number of national conferences for their professional societies, including (but not limited to) the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE).
By their very nature, engineers want to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges in the world, which is why it is imperative that we provide research opportunities for our students. Research provides students the chance to develop creative and analytics skills that enhance their problem-solving abilities. Research opportunities and collaborations are the hallmark of a Rochester education and are further enhanced by the close proximity of our Medical Center and Laboratory for Laser Energetics.
Your investment in our students, faculty, and programming strengthen our commitment to build, grow, and sustain world-class programs that provide experiential learning both in and out of the classroom. Internships, education abroad, and entrepreneurial opportunities help today’s engineering students enhance their education and put into practice what they learn in the classroom, integrating their engineering knowledge with practical, real-world experiences.
Please consider making a gift to an area within the Hajim School that impacted your education or career. Thank you for considering a gift to the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences.
Sincerely,
Wendi Heinzelman
Professor and Dean
