Black Alumni Network Volunteer Interest

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Black Alumni Network at the University of Rochester. The Black Alumni Network is an inclusive leadership organization that seeks to empower, connect, and celebrate the University of Rochester Black community. Find us on Facebook or on The Meliora Collective!

There are a number of volunteer opportunities to feel personally fulfilled while advancing the mission of the group:

Assist the Office of Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement with any of the following tasks to assist with events in your region:

  • Identify venues for events.
  • Go on site visits to look at potential space.
  • Facilitate conversations between vendors and event management staff.
  • Design the event program and flow (i.e. what happens at the event).

Connect with people within your network and/or with individuals identified by the Office of Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement to encourage participation at events, meetings, or activities. Someone helping in this role may also help to identify people that should be engaged within a specific region and/or have volunteer leadership potential.

Provide guidance to fellow alumni and/or students. This mentorship could range between career/professional topics (resume-building, interview practice) and personal topics (navigating difficult conversations, study tips). Individuals who identify interests with career mentoring may also be referred to the Gwen M. Greene Career Center and other career support offices across the University to assist with other professional guidance for current students. The Meliora Collective group is a great way to start a mentoring relationship.

Undergraduate Admissions

Help the Undergraduate Office of Admissions for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering recruit students in your region. Activities include:

  • Providing information at a local college fair.
  • Conducting alumni interviews.
