When will the GAC be open?

The Goergen Athletic Center, tennis courts, recreation courts, indoor track, field house, Leibner-Cooper Room, Fitness center, and aquatic center (pool) are all open.

What should I bring to the gym?

UR ID, Phone (with Dr. Chatbot check mark), mask (not a buff, gaiter or bandana) water and any recreation equipment you want to use. Pack light! A limited number of day use lockers will be available.

When will the pool open?

The pool is open. You will need to show your UR ID card and Dr. Chatbot when you enter the pool.

What are the hours of operation?

Who will be able to use the GAC?

All fulltime undergraduate, graduate students and R Club Members are able to use the GAC. Guests of students and R Club members will not be able to use the facility until further notice. Questions regarding R Club memberships can be sent to rclub@sports.rochester.edu

Do I have to wear a mask?

Yes, the University is now requiring surgical, N95, or KN95 masks (non-cloth masks) to be worn by all students, faculty, staff, and visitors—including those who are fully vaccinated—while indoors on any of the University’s campuses and properties. Cloth masks are acceptable only as a second/outer layer when paired with a surgical, N95, or KN95 mask. The only exception to this face mask policy is the use of a clear face mask when necessary for communication with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Will there be occupancy limits?

All occupancy limits have been lifted at this time.

Tell me about using Fitness Center. As a starting point:

  • Plan your workout to make your time in the Fitness Center efficient.
  • Do your cardio outside, in the Leibner-Cooper Room or in the field house, cardio equipment will be limited.
  • Bring your own water.
  • Face coverings are required at all times in the fitness center. Buffs, gaiters and bandanas are not permitted.
  • Only bring to the fitness center what you need for your workout.
  • You will be required to clean the equipment you use before and after use.

Can I play a game of basketball?

Yes, however, you must be masked at all times.

What about tennis?

The indoor and outdoor tennis courts will be available for singles and doubles play. Masking required at all times.

Can I play badminton?

All rec courts will be set up for singles and doubles badminton. Masking required at all times.

Are the racquetball and squash courts open?

Racquetball and squash courts are available. Please bring your own equipment. Masking required at all times. Racquetball/squash equipment will not be loaned out.

Can I play volleyball?

Volleyball is permissible. Masking is required at all times.

Can I play soccer?

Soccer is permissible. Masking is required at all times.

Can I rent out equipment?

The equipment loaning program will permit limited equipment loaning. It is recommended that you bring your own equipment to use in the GAC.

Will towel service be available?

Towel service will be suspended until further notice.

Will locker rooms be available?

Use of the locker rooms will be permitted. Showers will be available.

Can I bring a guest?

No, guests will not be permitted for the foreseeable future.

What are the cleaning plans for the Fitness Center?

All students, faculty, and staff R Club members will be required to clean equipment before and after they use it. Fitness Center staff will clean equipment each morning and throughout the day.
