Field of Work: Higher Education
What do you do?
I work in the Hajim School, in the Dean's Office. I develop best practice processes/procedures around student advising, performance, and outcomes. I work a lot with data, the advising office, and academic departments.
How did you become interested in your field?
My time in student government gave me a great sense of higher education as a field. I was able to meet with a lot of administrators on both the academic and student life sides of the house and understand how each is important to the total student experience.
What skills are vital for success in your field?
In general, I think professionals in higher education need to be empathetic, creative, and have a critical eye. For my functional area it is important to be excellent with program management, and data manipulation and analysis.
What experiences, internships, study, or previous jobs helped you get to your current position?
Experiential learning opportunities throughout college were tremendously informative—everything from co-curricular opportunities like business plan competitions, involvement in research, and obviously leadership experience from student groups.
