What are your daily tasks and how do you support your organization?
As an assistant in the Human Resources department, I provide administrative support by managing phone lines, emails, calendars, meetings, facilities, and departmental mail. I assist with interview scheduling and directing candidates and guests to interviews and meetings. I am also responsible for onboarding new hires and preparing for New Hire Orientation.
What do you consider the most essential skills for this career?
Being proficient in Microsoft Office Suite is essential. I use Word, Outlook, and Excel every day. It's also important to pay strong attention to detail, have good organizational skills, be able to multitask and prioritize, and always be friendly!
What advice do you have for students preparing to enter the workforce?
Stay open-minded and don't turn down opportunities just because it may not be exactly in line with your career goals. You never know what doors an opportunity will open for you. Take everything as a learning experience. Continue to network and develop professional relationships. Update your resume constantly and always have it ready for anyone who may ask for it. And this last piece of advice is specifically for those who wish to work in Entertainment: Stay up to date on what's going on in the industry. Do some online research, take a look at magazines, look up different companies and see what they're doing, be aware of the content that's out in the world. Be in the know!
